Bioblitz Korea 2025

Invitation to Citizen Scientists

We are pleased to invite everyone who loves nature and the living world to Bioblitz Korea 2025.

A Bioblitz is a unique citizen-participatory science initiative where biological experts and members of the public come together to explore a designated area within a limited time, aiming to discover and document as many species as possible. Bioblitz Korea 2025 will be held in the Gwangneung Forest UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, one of Korea’s most ecologically significant natural areas. Participation is open to semi-professionals with experience in ecological observation, as well as youth and adults with a foundational understanding of biology and an interest in biodiversity.

In 2024, Bioblitz Korea reached an important milestone by moving beyond its previous education-centered format and introducing programs designed to encourage more active engagement from semi-professional participants. Building upon this momentum, Bioblitz Korea 2025 will further expand its intensive exploration-based programs to promote deeper field research and more practical biodiversity conservation efforts. During the event, experts and citizen scientists will work together to explore restricted conservation zones within Gwangneung Forest, producing meaningful records of species inventories, habitat significance, and ecological findings.

As biodiversity continues to face increasing threats from climate change and urbanization, the importance of local ecosystems has become more critical than ever. In this context, Bioblitz serves as a valuable opportunity to enhance our understanding of the environment, strengthen conservation awareness, and contribute collectively to the protection of natural heritage. We warmly invite you to join this important journey—beginning in Gwangneung Forest and expanding to diverse regions and species across Korea.

We look forward to the active interest and participation of citizen scientists as we take this meaningful step toward a future in which ecosystems and humanity coexist in harmony.

Thank you.
